How to paint a rug

I bought this rug that I really, really liked, but the colors just weren't right. Story of my life.

Now as much as painting a rug may sound like a crafty crime, and it may be, I can assure you that this wasn't my first criminal offense.

I've done this abomination of a craft, at least a half a dozen times.

It all started when I painted my jeans.... and I thought wait a minute...if Seapaints works on pants... then why wouldn't it work on rugs? Spoiler Alert: it does.

And yes....the rug is still soft to the touch.

First of all, I should start off by saying that this was the most fun I've had in a long time. It was like a giant coloring book...and for a moment in time...I was a tiny kid...coloring on the floor again. I loved it so much, that I got a matching rug for the hall, just so I could experience that floaty childhood headspace once again.

Here's a picture of the before

I desperately needed to add yellow to my living room. Why? I don't even know. I just like to put my eyeballs on it.

    Supplies:

    SeaPaint shade of choice

    Baby wipes/ damp cloth

Soft bristled brushes (think makeup brushes)

    water

    220 sand paper or finer

    vacuum

    Step 1.

Take your SeaPaint shade of choice and make a potion. 1/3 SeaPaint, 2/3 water. Mix well.

    Step 2.

Brush on SeaPaint mixture with soft brush

    Step 3

Wipe off excess with a baby wipe or damp cloth.

    Step 4.

Let it dry. You can use a blow dryer or fan to hurry it along, but it's SeaPaint so it does dry faster than typical paints. Depending on how damp you get the rug will depend on how long it takes to dry. If you want to be safe, you can always leave it overnight if you prefer.

Once dry, rub the painted parts lightly with a little sand paper or one of our sanding sponges.

    Don't mind the cat fir.....

This little princess found it and seemed to rather enjoy it....last step below

    Step 5.

    Vacuum

    And that's it.

Let me know what you'd like to see my paint next.
