PMDD makes life hard, but what if we could ask for the easier mode? Sometimes, in a way and to a degree, we can.
What to ask for (examples)
-
Flexible deadlines during luteal week
 -
Shift swaps or remote days 1–2 weeks pre-period
 -
Quiet workspace or reduced sensory load
 -
Option to step away for 10-minute resets

Email templates (copy/paste)
Initial ask (short):
“Hi [Manager], I live with a cyclical medical condition that flares 1–2 weeks monthly. Could we set flexible deadlines or remote options during that window? I can share documentation and will keep you posted on dates.”
Professor version:
“Hi [Prof], I experience predictable cyclical health flares. Could we plan one flexible due date per month and allow brief in-class step-outs when needed?”
Documentation
Bring cycle tracking summaries and clinician notes if available.
FAQs
What if they say no?
Punch them. Kidding. Sorry, that was the rage talking. Just seeing if you're paying attention. What to really do? Ask HR/Disability Services; escalate with documentation.
Should I tell coworkers, if so how?
That's a personal choice that I can't make for you but scripts can help.
Brief and to the point works. “I’m managing a monthly health flare; I’ll be quieter this week.”
