When to See a Doctor for PMDD (and What to Bring)

    For education purposes only

If PMDD is impacting your life and relationships, it might be time to call the professionals. If none of their methods work, come back to me. I'll tell you what worked the best for me.

Red flags (book doctor appointment soon)

Severe impairment, self-harm thoughts, new/worsening depression outside luteal, uncertain diagnosis.

    What to bring

    • Two cycles worth of symptom tracking

    • 60-second story (about your symptom timing + impairment severity)

    • List of meds/supplements

    What to ask (pick 3)

Luteal SSRIs? Birth Control options? Rule-outs (thyroid, anemia)? Referral to PMDD-literate clinician/therapist? Other things that can help symptom severity.

    After the visit

Summarize your plan in your notes; set a follow-up date; keep tracking.

    FAQs

    Yes, especially for med follow-ups.

Remember, there is zero shame in asking for help. You're dealing with a real, debilitating illness. You aren't dramatic. You're suffering. I hope you get some relief soon. And if you want me to sit with you, smash that green chat button. If I'm by my phone, I will absolutely virtually hold your hand through this.
