I Built a Paint Brand From My Bed (And I'd Do It Again)

There is a specific kind of productivity that only exists when your body has humbled you.

Not the hustle kind. Not the "I woke up at 5am and optimized my morning routine" kind. The other kind. The kind where you are horizontal, the light is too loud, your joints feel like wet cement, and you have exactly one thing left in the tank.

For me, that one thing has always been words. Even when I couldn't speak, I could write.

Here's something slightly embrassing. I built SeaPaints from my bed. Not metaphorically. Not "I had a slow season and did some brainstorming." I mean I was injured, severely depressed, unable to stand long enough to cook, and I was writing product descriptions and blog posts from a pile of pillows with a laptop balanced on my knees.

When your world shrinks to the size of a bed, you get very clear on what actually matters, but more than that, you become incredibly freaking bored in that bed, just itching for something to do.

And a lot of things become clear. What you can actually do. What you certainly cannot do. What and who you are.

SeaPaints exists today because of these events, these episodes, mostly tied to PMDD but some of it was tied to an accident that injured me, making me more bed bound than usual.

I didn't close my business during this time. I kept showing up... just smaller and slower and from a different angle. An angle that most of them never got to see. I didn't want people to know how bad it truly was, not yet at least. I thought if I just didn't talk about it, it would go away.

And if you've been following for a while, that's about the time I started talking about it. While talking about it didn't fix anything it helped me feel far less alone as the women that surrounded me shared their own struggles with PMDD.

It was through sharing these troubles with Self hatred, friendships, career, and life managment in general that lead me to people like you.

And as hard of an era as it was, I'd do it all again.

Because someone, somewhere, needs to feel seen.

To know that they aren't crazy. And that it's not all in their head.

A miliion jars later, SeaPaints turned into far more than I ever expected, Especailly for a brand that built from my bed.

If you're sitting in your own pile of pillows right now, Hi! I see you. You've got this. Keep going.
